of ELSEDIMA

  • ELSEDIMA-RO VI (2007) was held in Sibiu, on 15-16 May and gathered representatives of the government, researchers and economic agents.
  • There participated foreign and Romanian guests, and gave plenary lectures. The event has represented a good opportunity for experience exchange and cooperation among Romanian and foreign experts, as well as the debate of the problems and experiences related to: decision making to provide environmental quality; safety; health and environment; elaboration of the safety programmes, of the safety reports and emergency plans; prevention and integrated pollution control; risk communication; strategies for the resifdual risk due to old technologies and plants, etc.
  • At the organization of this event there contributed national and international institutions with responsibilities in the field, universities and institutes with responsibilities in the field; non-governmental organizations.
  • Some of these were: Inspectorate for Emergency Situations “Cpt. Dumitru Croitoru” of Sibiu County; National Agency for Environmental Protection; Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Initiative; United Nations Environmental Programme; Geography Institute of the Romanian Academy; Lucian Blaga University Sibiu; National Centre for disaster management; Ecological University in Bucharest; Politehnical University in Bucharest; National Environmental Guard; Romanian National Red Cross Society; Environment and Health Centre; Environmental Partnership for Mining.
  • The conference is one of the most important in the country in this field, and this year the participation was very large (292 participants, among which 282 from the country and 10 from abroad.
  • It was highlighted the need to continue this cycle of ELSEDIMA conferences by the participation of the main actors involved in emergency situations management, industrial companies, academic experts and consultancy experts, public authorities.
  • By this conference, there was clearly identified the need to develop an expert network, organizations working at national level and integrate into the international flow.
  • The project represents an opportunity to stimulate the scientific activity in the field of environmental protection, one of the key issues of the approaching accession to EU. The project opens the way for improving the scientific excellence potential of the international research teams.
  • The participation of young scientists and PhD students, their orientation towards this new field, automatic systems, will all contribute to the expected results. By bringing these young scientists in contact with great international personalities, we facilitate creation of new co-operations that might lead to very valuable international results.
